Lila Quartermaine’s (Anna Lee) first husband Crane Tolliver (Wiley Harker) came to town and killed Susan. Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon) was now divorced from both Monica (Leslie Charleson) and Susan Moore (Gail Ramsey). She lost the baby, but she and Robert fell in love, so Luke’s surprise return threw them into a love triangle. When Luke was thought dead in an avalanche, Holly realized she was pregnant, so Robert married her. Luke and grifter Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) had a one night stand. Tiffany and Noah’s relationship ended when Bobbie came back to town. Rick Webber (Chris Robinson) was trying to clean up the condition of the waterfront, and with the help of foster son Blackie Parrish (John Stamos), built a sports center for street kids. Jackie and Robert fell in love, but Laura Spencer never returned. Cult member David Grey (Paul Rossilli) was ultimately found responsible.
Laura disappeared out of thin air at the same time investigative reporter Jackie Templeton (Demi Moore) arrived looking for her own missing sister, Laura Templeton (Janine Turner). Joe Kelly (Doug Sheehan) began investigating Diana Taylor’s (Brooke Bundy) murder and proved Heather Webber’s (Robin Mattson) innocence. Laura ended her marriage to Scott, then married Luke. Noah Drake (Rick Springfield) got serious with Bobbie Spencer (Jacklyn Zeman) but she left town when he wasn’t ready for a commitment. Luke, Laura, Robert and Victor’s mistress, actress Tiffany Hill (Sharon Wyatt), foiled their plot to freeze Port Charles. Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), an undercover agent from the World Security Bureau (WSB), worked with Luke to keep the diamond out of the clutches of the evil Cassadine brothers Victor (Thaao Penghlis), Tony (Andre Landzaat), and Mikkos Cassadine (John Colicos). Alexandria Quartermaine (Renee Anderson), niece of Edward Quartermaine (David Lewis), hired Luke to find a statue called the Ice Princess. On the run, their romance blossomed but when they returned Luke left her so she could be with her husband Scott. Luke was thought dead but he and Laura skipped Port Charles. At their wedding Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) realized Luke had raped his wife and threw him overboard. Mob boss Frank Smith’s (Mitchell Ryan) daughter Jennifer Smith (Lisa Marie) liked Luke and Frank pressured him to propose. But “ Days of Our Lives” has enough episodes stocked up to last it through the fall. “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “ The Young and the Restless” will eventually have their own episode supply issues as they also film weeks in advance. The four remaining soaps on the air have aired tens of thousands of episodes, but you can’t go back and stream them on Netflix or Hulu at will like a lot of classic primetime shows (though you can find many classic scenes and story highlights on YouTube). That said, flashback episodes also provide the audience a rare opportunity to take a walk down memory lane. Soap operas don’t usually do reruns, but desperate times call for desperate measures.
